The New Who

In grand fashion, probably grander than any previous cast announcement, the BBC announced who was going to be the Twelfth Doctor on Doctor Who.  The live special features interviews with past doctors and guests (Peter Davison was live in studio, and Colin Baker, among others, in vignettes), along with the customary building of suspense until finally the announcement.

Peter Capaldi is not a stranger to the Who universe.  He appeared in the fourth season in the episode The Fires of Pompeii.  He also had a part on the Torchwood mini-series Children of Earth (if you have never checked out Torchwood, definitely check out this mini-series, available on DVD).

Most ironically (and something a lot of people have already pointed out, so I will to), Capaldi was in World War Z as a physician working for the World Health Organization.

Yes, that’s right, he was a W.H.O. Doctor.

Here’s looking forward to the adventures of the Twelfth Doctor.
