I’m not that stupid.

Recently, on one of those oh-so-great online dating sites, I had been contacted by a woman from the Ukraine who wanted to get to know me.  I have to admit that the warning bells were going off long before she told me she was not from the U.S.  mostly it was because of her picture.

What you see here is a screen grab of her pic from her profile.  Yes, yes, she does look very pretty.  Almost too pretty actually.

And that is the problem.  She is too pretty.  And too recognizable.  That’s right, she’s famous.  Or rather, her picture is famous.  This picture is not of a young woman from the Ukraine, but of this person.

This is model Jessica Burciaga.  She has appeared in a number of catalogs, magazines (including being a Playboy Playmate).  She does not live in the Ukraine.  At least, I am almost certain that she does not live in the Ukraine since her bio of benchwarmer.com says she’s from California.

The point of all of this (other than to provide an excuse for me to look up pictures of Jessica Burciaga to prove my point – she is really attractive) it to provide a warning to all the lonely guys out there to be careful.  If someone on an online dating service seems too good to be true, she probably is.

And, if you have suspicions about something, there are a number of different ways to find out if she is a fake or not.  The easiest way it to simply search the image.  In addition to the googleimageusual Google image search, you can actually search a specific image.  Simply upload the image and run the search like you would do any other.  That way, you should be able to see if the image links back to a Facebook page of the person you think you’re talking to, or to some celebrity that is obviously not who you think you are talking to.  There are also a number of websites that will document all the various romance scams out there, such as Romancescam.com.

If you feel like something is too good to be true, it probably is.  Be careful who you talk to, and never agree to give anyone money, especially if you have never met in real life.
