Saturday Songs - October 12, 2012

It’s really been one of those weeks.  It’s been so busy that it’s been Hellish.

Which is why this week’s song seems that much more appropriate.

The original Hellraiser movie came out in 1987, based on a novella by Clive Barker.  In that movie, the world was introduced to a new film monster, Pinhead.  I really hesitate to use the word “villain” since it he was not really the villain of the movie, Sean Chapman’s character, Frank, was.  But Pinhead was something more than just a monster.  A demon from Hell, he was summoned accidentally by Kirsty (played by Ashley Laurence).  Only a quick deal to help Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites find Frank, who had escaped their clutches, manages to save them.

Skip ahead to 1992 and Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth.  This was the first Hellraiser movie that I saw in a theater (seeing the first two on HBO).  This was also the first time I had ever seen Terry Farrell, soon to be a big name thanks to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  It was also the first Hellraiser movie (that I am aware of) that had a soundtrack.  Not a musical score, but an actual soundtrack.  A lot of the cuts were club sounding music numbers, appropriate since it is a club that serves at the primary location of the movie.  But there were a few cuts on their from the band Motorhead, cuts that seem all too fitting for such a soundtrack.
