Picks of the Week - July 25, 2012

It’s a new week, and a new Wednesday, time for some new comics.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

National Comics: Eternity #1 (DC Comics) – This one shot introduces us to the New 52 version of Kid Eternity.  This time around, he is able to bring back the ghosts of the dead to discover how they died.  An interesting take on the character, mixing in a bit of Tru Calling, along with some interesting twists to the story (like, who exactly is Mr. Keeper?).  It is a shame that this is just a one shot.

I, Vampire #11 (DC Comics) – Andrew Bennett’s plan to work out a peace between the vampires and the Van Helsings is pretty much a failure, with the Van Helsings willing to die, over and over, to stop them.

Green Lantern: New Guardians #11 (DC Comics) – The ring-bearers confront Larfreeze, believing him to be the thief of the power rings.  In the battle, we learn who is really responsible for the ring thefts, and did anyone really think we have seen the last of Invictus?

Green Lantern #11 (DC Comics) – This issue changes the dynamic of the Sinestro/Hal Jordan relationship.  Plus, Black Hand now has a black power ring.  That cannot be a good thing.

Aquaman #11 (DC Comics) – The surprise book of the New 52, we learn more of Aquaman’s past, as well as what Black Manta is really looking for.

X-Treme X-Men #1 (Marvel Comics) – Meet the X-Men – a dimension hopping team of mutants looking to save the multiverse, versions of X-Men we know, yet never imagined, along with their newest member, Dazzler.

Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates #13 (Marvel Comics) – Divided We Fall begins as the Ultimate Comics universe is altered beyond imagination.  Can the reunited Ultimates – Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America – bring order to this new chaos?

Wolverine and the X-Men #14 (Marvel Comics) – The Phoenix empowered Colossus wants to rekindle his relationship with Kitty Pryde.  But, is she willing to join him and leave the school?  This issue stands above the weak AvsX “event” that it is tied into.
