Picks Of The Week – April 25, 2012

It’s been a long week for me (or rather, it will be).  But, at least I got a new batch of comics to help ease the pain.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Green Lantern: New Guardians #8 (DC Comics) – Kyle’s new guardians, no closer to learning who stole the various rings, begin to fracture as members split up, most in need of ring recharges.  But what happens when Arkillo learns what happened to the Yellow Lanterns in his absence?

Justice League Dark #8/I, Vampire #8 (DC Comics) – The Rise of the Vampires concludes in these two issues.  In Justice League Dark, Deadman and John Constantine try to convince the fallen Andrew Bennett  to rejoin the fight against the vampires.  But, if the conclusion in I, Vampire is and indication, that may not have been the best of ideas.

Voodoo #8 (DC Comics) – It’s Voodoo against Priscilla Kitaen.  Can either survive the battle, and what do the Blackhawks want with them?

Aquaman #8 (DC Comics) – The surprise book of the New 52, this issue continues to explore Aquaman’s past with The Others as he and Ya’Wara strive to stop Blank Manta from killing the other former members of the others.

Uncanny X-Men #11 (Marvel Comics) – To be honest, I was not really all that thrilled with most of the issue.  The art is excellent, but the story felt like a bit of a rehash of the events in Avengers vs X-Men.  What made this issue stand out was the last three pages when Cyclops activates… Avengers Protocol.

FF #17 (Marvel Comics) – As you may or may not know from other blog posts, I am not a big fan of Spider-Man, mostly because of what happened in One More Day.  So, it surprised me when I was actually enjoying a Spider-Man-centric issue of FF., mostly because Jonathan Hickman writes a truly hilarious issue.  Now that Johnny Storm is back from the dead (which, let’s face it, we all knew was going to happen), he needs a place to stay.  Unfortunately for Spider-Man, the Human Torch is crashing at his place.
