Book Review – Nightmare at 20,000 Feet: Horror Stories by Richard Matheson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The biggest problem I had with this book was in the promise it made on the back cover, namely the inclusion of the short story, “Duel” which does not appear in this collection.
Besides this one omission, this book is a great collection of Matheson’s short stories. Not perfect, but then there are few anthologies that are. While I was not thrilled with “Dance of the Dead,” other stories, like “Disappearing Act,” “The Children of Noah,” and “Mad House” truly build suspense. A number of the stories do not fall into a typical narrative form (“Through Channels” most notably) which show a greater range of Matheson.
