A. Lee Martinez is one of those authors that seems to occupy two worlds for me. On the one hand, I loved Gil’s All-Fright Diner, Monster, and Divine Misfortune. But, I also felt like I was trudging through The Automatic Detective.

This book leans closer to the Automatic Detective. While the characters were likable enough, and some of the situations Diana finds herself in are pretty funny, the book as a whole felt like it was meandering, like it did not really know where it wanted to go.
