Things You Only Hear During NaNoWriMo

During the month of November, writers, professional and amateur engage in National Novel Writers Month (NaNoWriMo).  During that time, they all engage in the attempt to write a novel of at least 50,000 words by the end of the month.  In that time, certain things are said that would only be said during NaNoWriMo.

Things That Changed in November for NaNoWriMo

(Apparently when I wrote this, I made a lot of typos on the list.  I blame a NaNoWriMo addled mind.  However, I am going to leave them in.  Enjoy)

For anyone engaging in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), there are undoubtedly some changes to behavior that occur because of you’re trying to write at least 50,000 words by the end of the month. What follows are a list of some of the things that changed for me.

Why My NaNoWriMo’s Won’t Get Published

It’s November, and once more, I have participated in National Novel Writer’s Month (NaNoWriMo), making this my fifth time.  I say participated not because I gave up, but because I have made word count and also reached the end of my story.

Of course, this being my fifth year, I’m taking a moment to look back and realize that it is very unlikely that any of these books I’ve written will ever be published.

Quiet Times

Easing off the NaNoWriMo project since it is (more of less) finished.  Now just waiting for the verifier.

NaNoWriMo 2011 Word Count – Tuesday

Took a crack at sprucing up the ending, which helped bring the word count up to 52,929.  The only problem I ran into is that now the main female lead is aware that the main lead has been the subject of a crush that went no where with him, but started to go somewhere with his doppelganger.  Now the main lead is wondering what she would think about all of that, and I really left it up in the air.

I may have to take another look at the ending again.  I also have to work in a character that shows up in the end earlier.  He is mentioned, but it seems odd that he shows up right at the end to tie up a bunch of loose ends.

Perhaps he can show up at the comic shop in the first chapter to taunt the main lead a bit.

NaNoWriMo 2011 Word Count – Tuesday

I managed to hit 51,504 words tonight, which is pretty good considering my story was starting to peter out.  If I do anything else, I may expand the final chapter, maybe make it a couple of chapters so it doesn’t feel all too rushed.

I think I may step back for a day, then tackle that one.

NaNoWriMo 2011 Word Count – Monday

At this moment, my word count stands at 43,046.  I wrapped up this writing session with two sentences:

It had begun.  The attack of the spring break zombies.

On an aside note, my word counter in Screenwriter seems to have stopped working for this project.  Whenever I use it, it locks up the program and forces a restart.  Thankfully, I’ve been saving before that happens.

NaNoWriMo 2011 Word Count – Sunday Part 1

Currently sit at 39,029 words.  At this point, the story is beginning to get close to wrapping up.  And by wrapping up, I mean the discovery of what the big bad has been doing during spring break, the assault on the archive, the kidnapping of the female lead, the plan to trap the big bad and rescue the female lead, the final battle, and the resolution to the sub plot of who was trying to kill the main character originally.

I’m also looking to add in an epilogue, mostly because of an idea that popped into my head that really isn’t relevant to the main story, but could make a fun little wrap up.
