Picks of the Week – October 12, 2011
DC’s New 52 continues into its second month in this special “Really, why can’t baseball players play in the rain like other sports and finish on time” edition of the picks of the week.
WARNING: FIRST ISSUE SPOILERS AHEAD
Batman and Robin #2 – Bruce has his work cut out for him with Damien as he attempts to lead him in the right direction. We also learn who is responsible for the death of Batman’s Russian agent as he pays a visit to Wayne. And, is that… Ace the Bat-hound???
Batwoman #2 – Varying art styles abound in this issue as Batwoman continues her weeping woman investigation. But, even as she pushes ahead in her investigation, Batwoman herself is pursued not only by Detective Sawyer of the GCPD, but Agent Cameron Chase of DEO.
Green Lantern #2 – Sinestro makes Hal Jordan an offer: be Sinestro’s servant, and be a Green Lantern once more.
Grifter #2 – The action continues as Cole Cash continues to take the fight to the Daemonites. Grifter remains the roller coaster summer blockbuster comic of the New 52 with lots of action.
Legion Lost #2 – We begin to see what the effects the Legion’s future virus has on the present as the Legion meet a man who supposedly died in the first issue’s explosion.
Resurrection Man #2 – We begin to see the full scope of what the Mitch Shelley has been through as he goes to find his father. Naturally, if the Resurrection Man is around, his old enemies, the Body Doubles, can’t be far behind.
Suicide Squad #2 – This issue sets up the Suicide Squad as the black ops cleaners of the DCU as they face an arena filled with nanoviral zombies. It is a brutal mission that claims the life of one of the Squad.
My Greatest Adventure #1 of 6 – Garbage Man and Tanga return in this anthology title, joined by the New 52′s version of Cliff Steele, Robotman.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #2 (Dark Horse Comics) – Buffy runs afoul with the local police as they investigate a number of deaths with a vampire angle, and with a demon debt collector seeking her… student loan payment???
Legion of Monsters #1 of 4 (Marvel Comics) – I have to admit I was a bit turned off my the artwork of Juan Doe. But, the idea of bringing together Marvel’s monsters (Living Mummy, Morbius the Living Vampire, Werewolf By Night, and Manphibian) together as lawman policing the monsters of the Marvel Universe is not a bad one. Throwing in Elsa Bloodstone is just icing on the cake.
PunisherMax #18 (Marvel Comics) - A twisted web of deceit and intrigue flow all through this issue. It gets difficult to keep track of who’s on who’s side in this violent tour de force.
