Picks of the Week – August 17, 2011

This week seems to be the Marvel week, so let’s get right to it.

X-Factor #224 – This issue wraps up the Wolfsbane pregnancy storyline, guest starring Werewolf by Night and a couple of special guest stars.  Peter David, as usual, still manages to weave in some humorous moments as we draw closer to the birth of Rahne’s baby.

Ultimate Fallout #6 – The fallout of the death of Ultimate Spider-Man continues.  This issue wraps up storylines for some, revelations by others, and provides the last of the set ups for the new Ultimate Comics titles beginning in a few weeks.

Fear Itself: The Homefront #5 of 7 – I’ve not been all that keen on the whole Fear Itself event.  The main storyline just is not clicking for me, and a number of the tie-in titles have not continued beyond the first couple of issues.  To be honest, I found most of this issue rather unextraordinary.  However, it is the Speedball storyline in this issue, dealing with the aftermath of the attack on St. John’s, Newfoundland that has this book on the list.  The story stands out not for any heroics performed by Speedball, but by relatively normal people.

Uncanny X-Men #542 – In this Fear Itself tie-in, Colossus, Kitty Pryde and Magik make a desperate trip to The Crimson Cosmos while the gathered forces of the mutants of Utopia try to find a way of stopping the unstoppable Juggernaut.  The issue stands out not only for the confrontation with Cyttorak, but every attempt to stop a Juggernaut powered by one of the hammers of the Asgardian Serpent (spoiler, the word ineffective is used a lot in this issue).
